Abstract:

New techniques for tracking particles in fluid are presented. A method to make micro-capsules which are filled with pure water and covered with a thin film of polystyrene is developed. Their mean specific gravity is 1.0064 and mean diameter is 295 microns. A new method is proposed to objectively determine the threshold of brightness, which separates particle images from the background. Finally, a new algorithm is now under development for tracking particles, in which Kalman's filtering theory and the chi-square test are applied.
