Dispute Review Boards ? Not Just Another Alternate Dispute Resolution Method

by M. C. Vorster, Virginia Polytechnic Inst and State, Univ, Blacksburg, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Preparing for Construction in the 21st Century

Abstract:

Dispute Review Boards are developing an impressive track record as practical and effective mechanisms for avoiding and resolving contractual disputes. Preliminary research findings indicate that the reasons for this success stem from the fact that Boards focus on prevention rather than cure, that both parties to the contract see them as fair and that emphasis is placed on dispute resolution at the level of occurrence.
