Abstract:

The 'liability crisis' of the 1980s which has affected engineers and other professionals in a significant way is considered. A number of theories or opinions have been advanced to explain the causes of the considerable expansion of liability exposure in the professions and in product liability cases. The emergence of increased liability exposure has had a strong influence on the way design firms practice their profession.
