Abstract:
Manual No. 74, Management, Operation and Maintenance of Irrigation and Drainage Systems, is an updated version of an earlier manual published by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1980. Material in the earlier manual became outdated with time and technology changes since its first publication. A revised manual has now been completed that describes state-of-the-art management, operation, and maintenance practices and procedures. Manual No. 74 is intended to assist irrigation and drainage districts in establishing proper management, operation, and maintenance of agricultural irrigation water delivery and drainage systems; and in minimizing costs and maximizing production with available resources. The material presented in the manual will, hopefully, command the attention of all persons associated with irrigation and drainage systems throughout the world. This paper serves as an executive summary of the material found in the published manual.
