Abstract:

Uncertainty in the pesticide leaching index AF is examined for the pesticides Atrazine and Diuron with attention to the contribution of temporal variability and estimation error in recharge. Uncertainty in AF for both chemicals is such that a one standard deviation shift in AF is sufficient to move the index into a higher leaching category at most locations in the study area. For the daily time scale, temporal variability in recharge is the largest source of uncertainty in AF for both Atrazine and Diuron. Propagation of data and parameter error through the recharge model also contributes significant uncertainty to AF estimates.
