Abstract:

The development of robust general purpose numerical algorithms for initial-boundary value ordinary differential equations (ODEs) which use the method of lines (MOL) makes the solution of partial differential equations (PDEs), ODEs and mixed PDE/ODE systems easy. The programming demand, illustrated in this paper by two examples of initial-boundary value PDEs, on the modeler is significantly reduced, along with the opportunity for errors to remain in the code. Multiple dimensions and multiple dependent variables can be handled by the MOL. The MOL software, written in ANSI FORTRAN77, is available for IBM compatible microcomputers.
