Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Environmental Engineering

Abstract:

The effects of phthalate esters (diethyl phthalate and dimethyl phthalate) and phenols (2,4-dinitrophenol, 2,4-dimethylphenol and 4-nitrophenol) on the performance of a laboratory-scale activated sludge unit was examined. The goal of this study was to examine the response of the system to relatively high levels of hazardous organic contaminants, and to monitor the daily performance of the system in the presence of varying composition and concentration of the pollutants.
