The Challenge of Meeting New Effluent Guidelines

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Environmental Engineering

Abstract:

Meeting new effluent guidelines is presenting a challenge to the environmental engineer. In most cases, existing plants must be retrofitted which will involve options of source treatment, tertiary treatment, or modifications to the existing process. An engineering analysis of alternatives is required to define the most cost effective solution. In many cases, laboratory and pilot plant studies will be required because of a poor data base.
