Abstract:

Coastal dune systems in southern California possess little of their historical and biological characteristics. If not completely extirpated by development, then the loss of native plants and animals, coupled with the establishment of non-native plants, has greatly reduced their functional and aesthetic values. Three dune restoration projects conducted in southern California state parks illustrate the complexities and idiosyncracies which make each effort unique.
