Abstract:

By considering the fresh water and salt water as different phases in a two-phase flow system, a set of equations are given for describing the salt-water intrusion as well as the mixing between the two phases. In such a way, both stratified type and mixing type phenomena in the river mouth are discussed. Some typical characteristic variables are predicted. One of the advantages of the present analyse is that it is convenient for discussing different types of interactions between fresh water and salt water based on one system.
