Abstract:

The paper summarizes a few things learned from the news media's experience in Hurricane Hugo and which they will try to do differently the next time. These include: simulcasting before the storm; laying fiber optic underground cable between the emrgency operations center and transmitter site; using more home video cameras; having generators and enough gas stored to last for two weeks; stocking up more food and water; having more time to take care of their own personal property.
