Abstract:

Three dimensional numerical experiments on random arrays of rough spheres were performed using the discrete element method to study the behavior of granular soil and the results were compared with available laboratory results on sands. The behavior of granular soil under cyclic undrained loading was studied for strains ranging between 10-4% and 10-1%. Good agreement was found between the numerical simulations and avaliable experimental data.
