Abstract:

The supports of frames may increase their rotational resistance as they are compressed. It is assumed here that this stiffening is a linear function of the load. Sway and nonsway buckling of portal frames is considered, and the effects of initial stiffness and stiffening rate on the critical load and effective length factor are determined.
