Abstract:

An investigation is carried out to examine the validity of current practice in using statistical linearization method for nonlinear degrading structures subject to random ground acceleration. The method of analysis involves endochronic hysteretic constitutive law to model restoring forces and extensive Monte Carlo simulation. A numerical example on multi-degree-of-freedom system is presented.
