Abstract:

Results of Monte Carlo simulations of structural responses of a finite element model of a space station truss to random member length imperfections are reported The results reveal that a geometric precision of 1 part in 100,000 is likely to result in residual stresses less than 500 psi (3.40 MPa), and deformations less than 0.50 inches (12.7 mm).
