Abstract:

Abnormalities of intra-articular contact near sites of local surface incongruity are frequently associated with secondary osteoarthrosis. We here review a series of experimental and computational studies in which contact stress distributions have been mapped - as a function of the geometric severity of the local incongruity - for several situations of clinical interest.
