Abstract:

For rigid-plastic structures with random resistances and loads, a technique is presented that identifies critical failure modes considering the effect of axial force-moment interaction on the formation of yield hinges. Identification of critical modes is achieved by solution of a nonlinear mathematical program. A cyclic procedure is presented to select those modes which contribute significantly to the estimate of the system probability of failure.
