Abstract:

A numerical technique for the nonlinear analysis of space trusses taking into consideration such factors as load-eccentricity, initial crookedness of the member and nonlinear stress-strain relationship of the material is presented. The technique can be used to trace the load-deflection behavior of the structure from the onset of loading to the limit load and beyond. The method of analysis encompasses two stages. In the initial stage a member analysis is performed in which a numerical integration scheme is used to derive the nonlinear axial load-deformation relationship of each member. In the second stage of analysis a modulus modification method is used to trace the nonlinear load-deflection behavior of the structure. The validity of the method is demonstrated by comparing the numerical results obtained using the proposed method with test results of space trusses.
