Abstract:

A hybrid numerical method is presented to investigate the interaction of elastic waves with axisymmetric cavities on the surface of a half space. In this method the near field which consists of the cavity and a small region surrounding it is modelled by finite elements. The far field is modelled by a direct boundary integral procedure. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the method.
