A specific structural typology is considered with a deep expertise available on the subject. The 'state of health' of a single building is assessed by an expert system which incorporates the existing expertise. The paper illustrates a new version of this expert system for the seismic vulnerability assessment of masonry buildings. It is implemented within an 'AI development environment'.
