Abstract:

This paper proposes a control system for the automatic operation of an open channel having upstream and downstream gates. The main issue is the use of a discrete-time algorithm which computes, at each sampling instant, the desired upstream gate opening using the measurement of the water levels at both sides of the gates as feedback information. The objective is to make the downstream discharge follow the demanded setpoint.
