Abstract:

A design heuristic for the optimization of water distribution systems is presented. Algorithm TREESEARCH finds a near optimal core tree layout. Algorithm REDUNDANCY adds redundant links to the core tree such that each demand node has at least two arc-disjoint paths from source nodes. An example problem from literature is solved and better results are obtained than those previously obtained by other researchers.
