Abstract:

Infrastructure management is one of nine general types of applications of geographic information systems (GIS) technology. Our Federal, state and local road networks represent a massive infrastructure investment which requires effective management. This paper describes the basic components of a GIS-based pavement management information system designed as a decision support tool for improving asset management decisions.
