Abstract:
Strategies for discrete structural optimization of 3D steel frames with coupled section properties are presented. These strategies include linearized branch and bound, simulated annealing, and a new 'smart' simulated annealing strategy. The smart simulated annealing strategy uses a sieve that blocks potentially bad designs from passing through to the simulated annealing process. The results are presented on a realistic test problem and compared.
