Abstract:

The objective of this paper is investigate the effect of soil flexibility on the performance of the active control system for seismic-excited buildings. By using the critical-mode control method, both the active tendon control system and the active mass damper system are studied. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the influence of foundation rigidity on the controlled response of the building and the required control forces.
