Abstract:

A Committee has been active for 10 years to develop Code rules for the design, construction and in-service requirements of containment systems for nuclear spent fuel and high level radioactive waste transport packagings. The paper describes the history of the Committee's activities, the progress which has been made, the remaining technical issues and the continuing need for these Code rules. Publication of the rules for design and construction on a 'For Trial and Comment' basis is anticipated by early 1993.
