Abstract:

This paper presents the state of practice on the use of fly ash in roller compacted concrete (RCC) pavements. Placed using asphalt pavers and compacted using asphalt rollers, RCC pavement can be constructed more rapidly and with less labor than traditional concrete. Fly ash in RCC partially replaces Portland cement and optimizes the amount of fine material in the mix. Fly ash also improves placement characteristics and contributes to strength development due to this pozzolanic properties.
