Abstract:

Brule Hydroelectric Project is located near Florence, Wisconsin, on the Brule River about 1.5 miles upstream of its confluence with the Michigamme River. The 80 year old dam developes 63 feet of head for a 6-MW run-of-river hydroelectric plant. Drainage area at the dam is approximately 1050 square miles. The following paper describes in detail the rehabilitation of the service spillway, the design of an auxillary fuse plug spillway to handle excess flows up to 50% of the project's Probable Maximum Flood (PMF), and the resulting flood operation of the reservoir.
