Abstract:

Three analytical tools are outlined for use in design test bed work focusing on the design/production interface. The tools are substitution analysis, coupling analysis, and value chain analysis. These tools have use when there are many agents controlling parts, and when the artifact designed is subject to transformation by 'downstream' agents.
