Waste Geotechnics and Geosynthetics

by Suren Saxena, Illinois Inst of Technology, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Serviceability and Durability of Construction Materials

Abstract:

The geotechnology related to waste management focuses around assessing the movement of water and pollutant transport, containment of the pollutant so that it is unable to pollute the underground drinking water reservoirs, surface reservoirs and rivers; and thirdly studies related to waste land-fills for stability. The objectives of this paper is to discuss the above three areas and the applicability of geosynthetics in them. Subjects covered include leachate migration, containment considerations, and waste management.
