Abstract:

In most cases, the resin transfer molding (RTM) researcher has a fundamental understanding of composites and possibly some mold design experience. The areas of resin flow dynamics and cure Kinetics tend to be a new experience. For the serious RTM researcher, a working knowledge of these topics is required to be successful at producing high quality aerospace parts. This paper discusses the topics of flow dynamics, curing and their relationships to RTM. Subjects covered include micro permeabilities/surface tension, axial permeability, off-axis permeability, surface tension, macro permeabilities, and others.

Subject Headings: Permeability (material) | Composite materials | Surface Tension (water properties) | Curing | Overland flow | Materials processing | Fluid flow
