Abstract:

Considerable progress has been made in the nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of wood components since the introduction of the first concepts more than twenty-five years ago. New stress wave spectral analysis-based techniques are providing a large number of NDE variable for correlations with material properties and load carrying capacity. These new techniques are providing more reliable strength and stiffness predictions for wood components than previously possible. The concepts of stress wave NDE, as well as the results of case studies involving its use, are reported herein.
