Theoretical Study on Capture Chamber with Lateral Entrance

Abstract:

A capture chamber with lateral entrance can be used in a pneumatic wave energy conversion system. In this paper, the output power coefficients of the capture chamber have been calculated based on a theoretical method. By using the method, the relation between the pressure above the internal water surface and the speed of that surface was found. Equation of motion of the internal water surface based on the force balance on the water column inside the chamber and continuity equation, and the acting force on the water column by external wave was calculated by pertinent wave theory. The theoretical results were compared with experimental data showing a good agreement.
