A Study on Sediment Transportation in Debris Flow

by Zhicheng Kang, Chinese Acad of Sciences, China,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulics/Hydrology of Arid Lands (H?AL)

Abstract:

By analysing the observation data of debris flows at the Jiangjia Ravine, Dongchuan, Yunnan Province, China in 1982-1986, this paper comprehensively and systematically describes the sediment transportation properties, rates and quantities of viscous debris flow, fluid debris flow and high concentration flow to show that debris flow is a high-intensity sediment carrier, which is more than 40 times that of the Yellow River under the same discharge conditions. All the above distinct sediment transport properties will promote both theoretical and experimental studies on debris flow.
