Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulics/Hydrology of Arid Lands (H?AL)

Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to propose a change in the traditional methods and procedures used by hydrologist and hydraulic engineers to define floodways and floodway fringe areas. We propose that designated floodways be adjusted to encompass wetlands, resulting in better protection of our nation's diminishing wetlands and a reduction in development problems encountered on a regular basis across the nation due to permit requirements pursuant to Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
