Abstract:

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is developing a method of lining a large irrigation canal in-place while water flows in the canal, using an impermeable plastic membrane covered with concrete. The method is being tested on a prototype lining project on a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) section of the Coachella Canal in southern California. This paper summarizes the development of the new method and the construction procedure used for the prototype project.
