Abstract:

The paper discusses the development and applications of a Monte Carlo simulation Program (BUS - MONITOR) for estimating and evaluating the quality of service of fixed route, many to many type bus services under different operating schedules. Quality of service is a assessed in relation to on time performance (OTP) and deviations from starting headway. The analysis of OTP and headways is performed during each round trip to examine the performance over time. Furthermore, the sensitivity of journey speed variations, service frequency demand for boarding and alighting, and route control, on OTP and headways are evaluated very rapidly by comparing probability distributions.
