Abstract:

An active Tunnel Surveillance and Control System (TSCS) is generally indicated for long highway tunnels. The TSCS uses a computer system, detection devices and a communication system to monitor traffic conditions in the tunnel, detect incidents, and provide a response to incidents through traffic control devices and mechanical safety equipment. The present paper describes a state-of-the-art TSCS computer recently designed for the Hanging Lake Tunnel Project in Colorado.
