by B. L. Burrough, De Leuw Cather Inc, South Africa,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Microcomputer Applications in Transportation III

Abstract:

A case study is presented describing the initiation and development of a prototype knowledge-based system for the motivation of traffic signal control, to be applied within a user-sensitive IBM PC/compatible environment operating under MS-DOS. Plans to further develop and extend the system to facilitate design and specification functions are also discussed. The need for sound knowledge engineering input, over and above the usual programming skills, is emphasized.
