Abstract:

This paper introduced a package which may be the first to be developed for travel demand forecasting on the Macintosh. Features of the package and its capabilities are demonstrated through a simple example network composed of three zones. The same example is also solved using the TRANPLAN package. A comparison between basic features of both packages is performed. The superb capability of the package to predict changes in traffic flow patterns under alternative scenarios of wide range of land use, socioeconomic and transportation policies in effective, efficient and easy manner is demonstrated. The attractiveness of the package as effective tool for decision making in the real world and teaching in the class room is highlighted. Shortcomings and needed improvements are also pointed out.
