Abstract:

A focused modeling approach utilizes calibrated model parameters and inputs from a regional model, yet allows the flexibility to quickly test land use, network and other policy alternatives. This paper summarizes how this approach was used to develop forecasts for a beltway corridor and a downtown area. Focused modeling requires the development of four major inputs: modeling areas, traffic analysis zones, networks, and intrazonal travel times and terminal times. Each of these inputs are discussed separately.
