Abstract:

Systems integration in the development of the Federal Waste Management System for spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste involves not only the activities traditional to development of major systems but also those that are somewhat specific to the radioactive nature of the materials being handled. A general overview is presented concerning system configuration development, development of system models, waste acceptance criteria, and assessment of the facilities at the interface between DOE and the utilities - to demonstrated the depth to which systems integration studies have been performed and are on-going.
