Abstract:

The U.S. Department of Energy-Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (DOE-OCRWM) is sponsoring the Facility Interface Capability Assessment Project to determine current and potential facility capabilities for storage and shipment of spent fuel. The project includes performing site visits to all 122 commercial facilities from which spent fuel will be accepted by the Federal Waste Management System (FWMS). DOE-OCRWM is also sponsoring the Near-Site Transportation Infrastructure Project, which includes site surveys to determine the current and potential cask transportation capabilities in the vicinity of the 76 commercial sites on which are located the commercial facilities relevant to the FWMS.
