Abstract:

This study shows that the behavior of a soil pipe system can be assessed by a nonlinear elasto-plastic finite element analysis. The results of numerical calculations are compared to the measured behavior of a large scale flexible pipe in a field test. The behavior of buried pipe along a pipeline vary considerably and a deflection of about less than 1.0% measured. The analytical results agree qualitatively with the field investigations and give promise of the support of the current design procedure.
