Abstract:

The Soil Conservation Service has used several different kinds of pipe products for spillway conduits of dams. Materials with a shorter estimated life are used for smaller low hazard dams and reinforced concrete steel cylinder pressure pipe with a minimum diameter of 30 inches used for moderate to high hazard dams. Pipe deterioration experienced has resulted from backfill low soil-water resistivity and conveyed water of low mineral content. Maintenance and rehabilitation has been done by replacement and grouting in plastic pipe liners.
