Abstract:

The focus of this paper is on the use of redundancy measures in the evaluation of bridge systems. The emphasis is on the definition of system redundancy measures suitable for use by bridge evaluators and designers. The deterministic and probabilistic redundancy factors of an existing steel girder bridge, Colorado State Bridge E-15-AF, under corrosion damage scenarios are calculated using nonlinear finite element analysis. Effects of different damage states on both bridge redundancy and bridge reliability are estimated.
