Abstract:
A formulation for reliability-based design procedures of wood columns and beam columns is presented. The load carrying capacity of these structural members is obtained using a non-linear finite element model. The adopted structural analysis method is applicable over the full range of slenderness ratios. A limit state design equation is proposed which includes specified compression and bending strengths, resistance factors and an adjustment for slenderness. Reliability calculations are carried out using FORM procedures.
