Part of: Structural Safety and Reliability

Abstract:

The paper tackles development of a structural reliability expert system, the basic goal of which is to improve current possibilities for structural safety and reliability analysis of critical pressurized components (e.g. vessels, piping, feedwater tanks, etc.) of large power and process plants, by applying the deep knowledge modelling and by coupling symbolic analysis with the numerical one. The system should enable quicker assessment and use of non-numerical (qualitative), incomplete, imprecise and/or uncertain data, unconsidered in present methodologies, which are mostly numerical. Incorporation of the deep knowledge leads to better handling of unexpected events. Architecture (modular), paradigms and description of the modules of the system are given in the paper, as well as the considerations regarding the use of the deep knowledge and coupling of symbolic and numerical analyses.
