Abstract:

This study presents that the variance of cumulative plastic deformation of a simple elasto-plastic structure under seismic excitation can be estimated in a relatively simple theoretical manner. A nonstationary response analysis was carried out by using a two-state method, in which the response is separated into an elastic part and a plastic part. It was clarified by a computer simulation that the variance of cumulative plastic deformation can be estimated within a good accuracy by the proposed method, if a damping ratio at the elastic region is about 0.03 to 0.1, even for relatively low yield level of the structure.
