Abstract:

This paper describes the application of an expert opinion and survey approach to the problem identification and risk assessment of engineering systems. The method of expert opinion for data acquisition is described. The influence of experts' biases on the outcome of the survey is discussed. Methods to obtain statistical results and to control the bias are also described in the paper. The application of the expert opinion approach to the problem of risk assessment of interior gas distribution network systems is demonstrated with results and conclusions.
